SSI allows you to execute a CGI script or command directly from the web page. This comes in handy as some CGI scripts will only operate if they are called from the web page itself. Here is the script :

<!--#exec cmd="filename.ext" -->

Be sure to include any directories (such as cgi-bin) and use the correct filename and extension type.

Usually the cgi script that requires this type of SSI call is a hit counter, poll, or survey. Something that the current page will affect or pass information into the cgi.

Most servers will require the file to have the extension of cgi. The use of the pl extension is often used, but some servers may have problems executing a pl file through SSI.

Sorry, I don't have a practical example for this command.
