Screen Resolution
Screen resolution is dependant on the viewer's individual computer settings. This setting is measured in pixels. A few years back, the standard resolution was set at 640 x 480. Recent studies have shown most people prefer using an 800 x 600 resolution setting or higher.

To find your screen settings, go through these steps :
1. On your desktop area, click your right mouse button.
2. Choose properties.
3. Click on the settings tab.

You can also find this area through :
1. Start.
2. Settings.
3. Control Panel.
4. Double click on the icon called Display.

Along the right hand side you will notice your display resolution. Along the left side it should show the color depth and font size. Try adjusting the resolution. Then adjust the font size. See what setting best suits you.

NOTE : Any adjustments applied to these settings may require a restart of your computer. Be sure you have saved any important information in all running applications.

Standard resolutions include :
640 x 480
800 x 600
1024 x 768
1280 x 1024

How do I create a site that will be seen well in all of these different resolutions?

There is only one true way to do this. Create many versions of the same site to accommodate each resolution. Not only will this take a lot of time, but space as well. The alternative that most people use is create a good site, test it in different resolutions, and try to make some minor adjustments to accommodate most of them.

Have you visited some sites and they have posted "BEST VIEWED IN blank BY blank RESOLUTION"? They have decided to choose only one resolution and make the site look it's best in that. Anyone in a different resolution setting will just have to cope with any "out of place" information or images. Not many people like to change their settings just to properly view a site. The "best viewed" choice isn't a limiting one considering they usually choose the popular 800 by 600 resolution.

If you use some percentages in your layout coding, you should be able to accomodate most resolutions. That should help your areas expand or contract to the visual screen sizes.
